Architect Rui Pinto Goncalves, founding partner of RRJ Arquitectos, studied at the Faculty of Architecture of Porto, the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon, and the Faculty of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Barcelona. His time in Barcelona was particularly significant in terms of professional experience. He worked at Atelier 2Arq y Asociado, in collaboration with architect Ventura Valcarce, with whom he eventually became a partner in a partnership lasting more than 20 years. 

At RRJ Arquitectos, he has brought to his projects a vision of architecture based on knowledge of the world and psychology applied to architecture, seeking to develop solutions that promote different relationships between the individual and the environment. With reference to the writings of Edward Hall, houses and cities should be understood as extensions of man.

His passion for travel complements the architect's humanized perspective, bringing to his projects references and lessons learned through real contact with different cultures, ways of life, and different construction techniques. Combining the techniques of popular and traditional architecture from the most remote regions with the most innovative technological solutions from large metropolises, the architect's vision seeks to reconcile aesthetic issues with the demands of the location and the specific requirements of each client.

Throughout its existence, RRJ Arquitectos has developed projects in a wide range of areas, such as health, equipment, offices, sports, commerce, housing, restoration, and urban planning. Notable projects include the Turcifal Monastery, the headquarters of Infarmed Laboratories, the new São Francisco Xavier Hospital building, the Torres Vedras Cultural Center, the new headquarters of the Mediacapital Group, the restoration and renovation of the Patriarchate Palace in Lisbon, the Acqua-Roma Shopping Mall, a block on the Barcelona seafront, the Barcelona traffic control center, the headquarters of the City of Lisbon Foundation, the Azemmour Tourist Resort in Morocco, The Ivens Hotel, and the Hotel da Baixa.
